Our experiment on oobleck would never have begun, if none of the group members respected each others perspectives, and ideas in general. When we were brain storming, we were told to think about anything, anything random. And so i said The Big Bang Theory which was quite funny and ridiculous, because it was impossible to create an experiment on that with the props at hand. I even started talking about the String Theory which was also ridiculed for obvious reasons. My ideas were at a dead end, i tried to recall past experiments i had done but nothing came up. When Cynthia began to share her ideas i tried to understand them. She talked about burning some element and turning it into mercury. And she kept on talking about it, eventually i recalled the experiment done in freshmen year. It was a great idea, so i tried to help her invest in it but we were denied of any hypothesis to begin with since mercury was too dangerous to work with. Then Cynthia talked about the mentos and coke experiment, which all of the group members were interested in, but the idea was stolen by another group. I thought of experimenting with dried ice, but no on seemed to like it, even when Ms.Knowles came by with a book full of dried ice experiments. It kind of felt bad that no one liked it but i moved on with another idea. Me and Cynthia both thought about corn starch and water, it was another experiment which we had done in freshmen year with Mr.Happer. It took us a while to get the idea together but i helped us come up with a hypothesis and experimental idea, and she did inputs on the more detailed aspects of the experiment. The experimental idea of timing the amout of time a coin takes to fall through different concentrations of oobleck failed. The coin either fell too fast or did not fall at all, we were unable to produce any significant result. And so again we began investigating different ideas again. We did not come up with one, even though we tried really hard, the teacher gave us the idea.
This was a great experience because my ideas were useless but Cynthia's were quite reasonable and it was great to have invested in her idea, it gave me great pleasure since we came up with some weird ideas and had a laugh about it. Even though when people rejected my ideas, i felt that i just had to come up with another one for the group. As a part of a group learning experiment i listened and tried to understand the interests of others, and i'm very happy about it.
Picture above are the ideas we came up with
